During his tenure as Housing Secretary, Pickles permitted Grenfell Tower in London to be clad using combustable cladding, something he was heavily criticised for during the subsequent enquiry following a fire at the tower in June 2017. His conduct during the enquiry was also criticised, with Pickles urging the enquiry not to "waste my time" and "use time wisely", as well as getting the number of deaths wrongAuszeichnungen
