Marie-Joseph-Paul-Yves-Roch-Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette oder Lafayette (* 6. September 1757 in Chavaniac (heute Chavaniac-Lafayette), Frankreich; † 20. Mai 1834 in Paris) war ein französischer Général de division und Politiker. Der Aufklärer nahm auf der Seite der Patrioten am Amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitskrieg teil und spielte eine wichtige Rolle in der Französischen Revolution.
