Henry Cavendish (* 10. Oktober 1731 in Nizza; † 24. Februar 1810 in London) war ein britischer Naturphilosoph. Seine bekanntesten Leistungen sind die Entdeckung des Elements Wasserstoff und die erste experimentelle Bestimmung der mittleren Dichte der Erde, die in weiterer Folge die Bestimmung der Gravitationskonstante ermöglichte, sowie die Erkenntnis, dass Luft die Elemente Sauerstoff und Stickstoff in einem konstanten Verhältnis von etwa 1:4 enthält.
