James Cleveland „Jesse“ Owens (* 12. September 1913 in Oakville, Lawrence County, Alabama; † 31. März 1980 in Tucson, Arizona) war ein US-amerikanischer Leichtathlet. Während seiner aktiven Sportlerlaufbahn stellte er mehrere Weltrekorde auf. International bekannt wurde Owens durch seine Siege bei den Olympischen Spielen 1936 in Berlin. Mit vier Goldmedaillen (Erstplatzierung bei drei Sprintdisziplinen und beim Weitsprung) war er deren erfolgreichster Athlet.
