Niels Henrik Abel (* 5. August 1802 auf der Insel Finnøy, Ryfylke, Norwegen; † 6. April 1829 in Froland, Aust-Agder, Norwegen) war ein norwegischer Mathematiker, der trotz seines kurzen Lebens als einer der bedeutendsten Mathematiker des 19. Jahrhunderts gilt.
