Er begründete die Logotherapie und Existenzanalyse, die vielfach auch als die „dritte Wiener Schule der Psychotherapie“ bezeichnet wird. Eines seiner bekanntesten Werke ist das im Jahr 1946 erschienene Buch … trotzdem Ja zum Leben sagen, in dem Frankl seine Erlebnisse und Erfahrungen in vier verschiedenen Konzentrationslagern, darunter Auschwitz, während des Zweiten Weltkriegs schildert.
