Sir Edward William Elgar, 1. Baronet (* 2. Juni 1857 in Broadheath bei Worcester; † 23. Februar 1934 in Worcester) war ein britischer Komponist. Sein bekanntestes Werk ist der Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1. Der Mittelteil ist auch als Hymne Land of Hope and Glory weltbekannt und gilt als die wichtigste inoffizielle Hymne des Vereinigten Königreichs; das Stück ist ein Höhepunkt der alljährlichen Last Night of the Proms.
