Roger Bacon (* um 1220, jedoch nicht vor 1214 (traditionelle Angabe), nahe Ilchester in Somerset; † kurz nach 1292 in Oxford), genannt „Doctor mirabilis“ (lateinisch für „wunderbarer/wundersamer Lehrer“), war ein englischer Franziskaner und Philosoph, insbesondere Naturphilosoph, und gilt als einer der ersten Verfechter empirischer Methoden. Er gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter der Spätscholastik.
