Jules Henri Poincaré [pwɛ̃kaˈʀe] (* 29. April 1854 in Nancy; † 17. Juli 1912 in Paris) war ein bedeutender französischer Mathematiker, theoretischer Physiker, theoretischer Astronom und Philosoph. Er galt in seiner Wirkungszeit ab 1880 bis zu seinem Tod und auch danach als einer der bedeutendsten Mathematiker, worin ihm zu seiner Zeit nur in Deutschland David Hilbert Konkurrenz machte, und zusätzlich noch als führender theoretischer Physiker und Astronom.
