Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel (englisch William Herschel; * 15. November 1738 in Hannover; † 25. August 1822 in Slough) war ein deutsch-britischer Astronom, Musiker und Komponist. Er ist der Vater des Universalgelehrten John Herschel (1792–1871), der seine astronomische Forschung weiterführte.
